Frequently Asked Chiropractic Questions

What is chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care is based upon the understanding that overall good spinal health depends  upon  normal function/painfree movement of our spine. Rather than just treating the symptoms, this natural method of health care focuses on correcting the cause of your problems.

Is it safe?
Yes. All chiropractic treatments have a good safety record.  My malpractise insurance rate is appx. $1,500 per year. We do not prescribe any drugs or invasive health care procedures. The only side effect you may experience is slight soreness which can be easily relieved by applying ice to the sore area.

What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment is the most effective way to correct the "pulled muscles" in your back. It involves the application of pressure to specific misaligned vertebrae in an effort to "unlock" these vertebrae and relieve the source of the pulled muscle. Once the adjustment is made, the vertebrae re-align to their more normal position.

Dr. LaVictoire has knowledge of several different adjustment methods and is able to select the best technique for you based upon your condition.  See "Our Services".

What is a subluxation?
Subluxation is when one or more of our vertebrae  move out of position and create your pain . Pressure on spinal nerves is what creates leg and arm symptoms. This pressure or irritation causes the nerves to malfunction and interfere with the signals traveling to your arms and legs. Chiropractors correct subluxation by performing chiropractic adjustments which relieves pulled muscles and pinched nerves.

How do subluxations happen?
Subluxations are the result of our stresses and strains of everyday activities, habits and events. Daily sitting, lifting, bending, standing and sleeping positions strain our spine, causing misalignment. Subluxations also occur due to accidents, including falls, car wrecks, sports injuries and more.
What are some warning signs of subluxations?

Subluxations are difficult to detect, that is why periodic spinal checkups are so important. Typical symptoms of subluxations include headaches, back pain, neck stiffness, pain in your shoulders, arms or legs, numbness in your hands or feet, fatigue or nervousness.

What type of education do chiropractic doctors receive?
Today's chiropractors have a minimum  seven years of college education which includes three years in an undergraduate program and four or five years at an accredited chiropractic college. Most chiropractors have a bachelors' degree in addition to their Doctor of Chiropractic degree. You are welcome to visit my alma mater's web site http://life.edu.

Do chiropractors treat conditions other than back pain?
Chiropractors provide spinal and extremity adjustments along with  modalities (heat, cold, electric stimulation, etc) that are effective for several different types of soft tissue disorders including neck, back and  extremity pain. Chiropractic care has also been known to treat several other conditions including  fybromyalgia, headaches, sciatica, scoliosis, stress and more.  Our office is also certified to practice ACUPUNTURE.
